Claire Morgan's large-scale aerial sculpture, Murmurations, was commissioned by Kennedy Wilson for the main entrance reception to 111 Buckingham Palace Road.
Fabricated from recycled plastic, the sculpture comprises a series of brightly coloured, interrelated geometrical forms that articulate the aerial space between the main entrance and the foyer escalators. It has been designed to be clearly visible from Buckingham Palace Road and attracts many passers-by into the foyer space to view the sculpture.
The artwork takes its title from the term ‘murmurations’ that describes flocks of starlings and the controlled yet fluid patterns they create in flight. This seemingly
fragile installation reflects the artist’s interest in organic processes and materials; the focus of her work centres on ideas relating to change, the passing of time and the transience of everything around us.
For the artist, the sense of fragility and lack of solidity that carries through the sculpture generate a tension between movement and stillness that animates the architecture of the reception space.
