11 - 12 Hanover Square

Zachary Eastwood-Bloom was selected to create a site-specific artwork as part of the re-development scheme for 11-12 Hanover Square / 287-291 Oxford Street in Westminster.

Eastwood-Bloom’s proposal was developed in discussion with Campbell Architects and is integrated within the fabric of the façade facing Hanover Square; a further element is installed within the interior reception area.

The architectural design of the Hanover Square elevation, a new eight-story office building, takes its reference from the numerous Georgian properties surrounding the Square in its proportions and choice of material.

For the artist, Hanover Square exemplifies a 21st century idea of London, as a fascinating mix of historical and contemporary architectural styles. Using digital mapping technology, Eastwood-Bloom reveals the underlying geometry of the local area whilst referencing its Georgian heritage. The artwork, realised in three parts, extends from the window guards to the external etched glazing, through to a further timber relief composition on the interior reception wall.
