William Furlong’s Acts of Inscribing, was one of a seies of temporary artworks commissioned for the iconic ‘prow’ of BBC Broadcasting House during its redevelopment. Shown between January and April 2004, the work revealed the building's hidden sound history, highlighting the numerous dramatic recordings that have taken place there.
Furlong's photographic image of the Sound Effects Store was accompanied by a sound artwork, composed using objects from the store, which was audible through the hoardings. The image invites the eye into the space of Broadcasting House, turning the building inside out.
Acts of Inscribing is part of the BBC Broadcasting House Public Art Programme, curated by Modus Operandi.
