As part of the BBC Broadcasting House redevelopment, artists Martin Richman and Tony Cooper were commissioned to develop a lighting scheme for All Souls Church, a Grade I listed building, and for the prow of old Grade II* listed Broadcasting House. Their scheme focused on the architectural structure and motifs of the neoclassical Church, as well as elements of Eric Gill's sculpture of Prospero and Ariel which stands above the entrance of Broadcasting House. The resulting installation created a dramatic relationship between these two important listed buildings.
‘Our scheme aims to maintain the integrity of the structure, encouraging the perception of the church as a dignified landmark which emanates to the community, and which is integrated within the BBC redevelopment.’
The light commission is part of the BBC Broadcasting House Public Art Programme, curated by Modus Operandi.
