Signal by Fiona Rae was one of a series of temporary artworks commissioned for the iconic 'prow' of the BBC Broadcasting House during its redevelopment. On show between July and November 2003, Signal explored the metaphorical notion of visual sound.
‘The image for the BBC contains a multiplicity of languages, signs and forms isolated from their original contexts in order to combine in new and unexpected ways’. Fiona Rae.
The work demonstrates that a literal explanation is not always necessary for clear communication and fresh understanding.
The BBC made a short film about the commission which is available here:
Signal is part of the BBC Broadcasting House Public Art Programme, curated by Modus Operandi.
