Artist Kate Blee was commissioned to develop a new permanent artwork for the café area of City and Islington College’s Centre for Lifelong Learning, at Finsbury Park, London. The inspiration for Blee's Ceramic Wall was the shell of the old Victorian school building, retained and refurbished as part of the new development by Wilkinson Eyre Architects. The artist collaborated closely with the architects to create the wall, using a variety of sizes of hand-made tiles in many shades of white. The pure and subtle colour and tones of the wall create a calm and relaxing atmosphere for the busy café.
The work is part of the City & Islington College Art Strategy.
