Modus Operandi co-curated and managed a commission with the Serpentine Gallery by internationally renowned artist duo Fischli/Weiss, in association with The Royal Parks. The unique installation Rock on Top of Another Rock was on view in Kensington Gardens from Spring 2013 until late 2014. It is now in the ownership of the Qatar Museums Authority.
Formed of two giant granite boulders balanced on top of each other, the sculpture stood at approximately 5.5 metres high. Situated near the entrance to the Serpentine Gallery this monumental work was the first public sculpture by the artists to be presented in the UK, and one of the last works they jointly conceived before David Weiss’s untimely death in 2012.
Artist Peter Fischli said:
'In Norway and here, to put one rock on top of another rock in the wilderness is the first thing you do if you want to make a mark. When you walk and you want to find your way back... you make this mark. It is a very archaic, simple thing, but it is referencing the [Robert] Venturi duck. We wanted to make something that forces you to stop your car and get out to take a photograph.'
