Susanna Heron was commissioned to create an artwork for the Marunouchi Art Project in Tokyo. Her initial drawings for the commission responded to the changing viewpoint of people moving around the space of the Hanging Garden and up the escalators within the building. Seen from the garden, the etched images catch the light and cast shadows across the visitors travelling up the escalators. Originally produced as ink drawings these images have been recreated as etchings in glass.
‘They are equivalent to elements within Nature but also to elements within the precisely engineered structures.’ Susanna Heron.
This work is part of the Marunouchi Art Project, curated and managed by Modus Operandi.
