Liz Rideal was commissioned to create a temporary light projection, heralding the start of spring, for the Tower and west wall of St Bartholomew the Less church in Smithfield, London. The resulting work, Cloth Fair, was a film-like sequence of images of falling silk. It explored the artist’s interest in representations of folds of cloth in historic paintings and referenced the historical cloth fair held from the 12th century in the adjacent streets to the church, one of which is named Cloth Fair. The project was managed by Modus Operandi with Bart’s and the London NHS Trust.
