Following the development of a Public Art Plan by Modus Operandi for Swiss Cottage, artist Laura Ford was commissioned to redesign the interior of the Children’s Library. Drawing on inspiration from Ordnance Survey maps, Ford has created an environment that encourages children to explore the world of knowledge. The contoured carpet features references to maps while the library's activity areas focus on the theme of trails. A mountainous green leather sofa is used for storytelling, and floating island-shaped computer desks and red-stained ply wigwams with natural light used for reading. These works form an integrated and creatively designed environment, intended to encourage children’s imaginations.
