In September 2000 Modus Operandi was appointed by the University to develop a Strategy for Art for the West Cambridge Science & Technology Campus. A Steering Group oversaw the Strategy; membership included the University’s Estates Department, MJP architects, Kettle’s Yard Gallery, the Fitzwilliam Museum, the Cavendish Laboratory and the Departments of Architecture and History of Art. The Strategy considered opportunities and priorities across the site, potential art/science themes, long-lists of artists, budget allocations based on a percent for art and external funding sources. Although received positively by the University and Cambridge City Council, the recommendations in the Strategy required baseline funding from the Estates Department, which to date has not been forthcoming.
